What’s your favorite aspect of working here?

My favorite aspect of working here is definitely the sense of community in the workspace. I love the open layout of the office itself and how we even have a little meditation room! The relaxing and fun atmosphere is a major plus that I’m super grateful for. From the music to the insane hot sauce collection, I think the unique work environment truly helps foster great, creative work. 

(I also love the snacks, Nicole’s dog, and the drinks.) 

What do you enjoy doing in your free time?

Outside of work I’m also a student – pursuing my master’s degree! But when I do have free time I enjoy spending quality time with my loved ones and friends. I also love to go to local shows for bands or musicians, spend time in nature, travel, read, thrift, create art (especially screenprints), and use my film camera! 

I also spend much of my time maintaining my mullet, watering my plants, and going rock climbing…

We hear you’re a connoisseur of music… Can you tell us a little bit about that?

I would definitely say that the sense of community that music has given me has been a huge influence and light in my life! In early high school I started to get involved with the hardcore community here in Jacksonville and it had a huge impact on me. The community itself has been a place where I’ve met some great friends, not only in Jacksonville, but all over. I have lots of people in my life who are in bands themselves and it’s just a really cool thing to see and be involved with! I love going to shows locally as well as larger fests out of town. Music, to me, is a really unifying and powerful thing that anyone can (should!) get involved with – whether that’s by going out to/booking shows, starting a band, making a zine, etc. I could go on forever but in the grand scheme of things I think music – not only hardcore – has definitely shaped me as a person and given me a lot of special experiences and relationships in my life! 

Do you have any pets?

YES! I have a cat named Cody who is my pride and joy. I adopted him when I was in high school from the humane society. He’s completely orange – even his eyes. He’s my little Garfield (he’s a big boy). My roommate also has a cat named Plum who has huge thumbs on her paws. I love them both so much and I hope they live forever. 

What are your favorite local spots to visit?

Jacksonville is such a cool place if you know where to go! In terms of bars I really love Neon Moon, The Flamingo, and The Walrus. For coffee, Brew and Bold Bean are great as well. I also enjoy going to parks – especially Memorial Park and Willow Branch Park for picnics or bike rides. If you’re looking to expand your record collection I highly recommend stopping by Tiger Records! They have a solid selection and always have such great people working there. For my taco lovers, Taqueria Cinco is hands-down the best in Jacksonville! Sun-Ray is my favorite movie theater because of their amazing food/drinks (and their Twin Peaks bathroom).
