About Kyle Bengtson

Let’s get to know you, describe yourself in 10 words or less!

  • Introverted, music loving, video game nerd with too many hobbies.

Do you have a favorite medium to work in? Why?

  • This is probably a tie between audio and video. I love writing music and producing but when it comes to visual storytelling, I get a lot of joy out figuring shots out and capturing moments. These two go hand in hand quite often as sound design and music are the unsung heroes of visual storytelling. I have found that I can communicate the best through these mediums, both from an emotional and technical standpoint so they are definitely where my passion is at.

What’s your creative process like when starting a new project?

  • Chaos. I think this changes for me project to project. Sometimes I have the entire idea all at once and sometimes I just have bits and pieces that come along as I go. I think the thing that doesn’t change is that I like to understand the ‘why’ first and foremost. What is the objective? What are we trying to communicate? Who is the audience? Usually I find that these types of questions offer a solid starting point for most projects.

What’s a fun fact or hidden talent you have?

  • Well I actually have rapped for years and like to think I’m pretty good. I’ve performed in Florida, New Mexico, Colorado, and New York and worked with some pretty well known-ish artists over the years. Hidden no, but generally unexpected.

Coffee order?

  • Large iced white chocolate mocha with whipped cream. Every time, no matter the establishment. Most of the baristas at the Elianos near my house will start my order when they see me in the drive through; I never waver.

If you could collaborate with any brand or artist, who would it be?

  • This is super difficult to answer because I have so many different inspirations for so many different reasons. I think it would be super cool to work with Nikon. In this world of content and video production, the vast majority of people are shooting on Sony gear and there are not a ton of creators or people to look to in the Nikon ecosystem. Justin Porter Media is one of my favorite filmmakers and he collaborates with Nikon a lot which I think is awesome.
